The improvements come from the fact that sport brake discs are usually made from higher-quality materials than OEM. These materials are designed to withstand higher temperatures and provide greater stopping power. Another benefit is reduced weight, which can lead to improved handling and responsiveness. Upgrades can also provide a more attractive aesthetic appearance through cuts, drilling or recesses.

Preparing a car for track driving first relies on modifying components from the braking system category, this is extremely important because serial components simply give up during hard braking. High temperatures cause a significant reduction in brake performance, in addition to deformation and damage in extreme cases.

Brake discs are usually made of cast iron, steel or aluminum. Cast iron is the most commonly used material due to its strength and affordability. Steel discs are more durable and can withstand higher temperatures, but are usually more expensive. Aluminum brakes are lightweight and perform well in wet conditions, but may not be suitable for heavier vehicles, where they can be damaged. In addition to these materials, coatings such as zinc or ceramic can also be used to improve their performance. Zinc coatings help reduce wear on the disc surface, while ceramic coatings provide better heat dissipation. The latter are almost impervious to overheating when the system is in working order.

GEOMET® technology is a patented and Hawk Performance-designed technology that involves coating the disc with a thin layer containing metal oxides, zinc and aluminum flakes. The zinc and aluminum flakes are applied to the surface in liquid form and later hardened at 300-315°C. This technology meets all the requirements of the following institutions:

Brake discs - replacement and maintenance

In addition to regular maintenance and service, remember to check brake discs regularly for signs of wear or corrosion. Worn or cracked discs should be replaced as soon as possible, as they can reduce braking performance and even cause failure. Components in the braking system should also be checked for uneven wear, which can indicate a problem with the caliper or other components. Uneven wear can also be caused by improper installation or incompatible brake pad material.

 

It is extremely important to make sure that the brakes are within the proper operating range declared by the manufacturer, and that all critical areas are regularly maintained. Good brake maintenance can help ensure reliable and safe operation for a long time. Lack of cyclic service can lead to its premature wear and damage to components that will require replacement.
