Nitrous Oxide
What is a gas called nitrous oxide? Medical gas used in tuning.
Nitrous oxide in tuning called "Nitro(NOS - nitrous oxide system)" is used as an "afterburner", which allows you to get temporary power gains of the engine. In order for the nitrous oxide injection to have the intended effect, we also need to supply a correspondingly larger dose of fuel to the combustion chamber.
How does the NOS kit improve engine power? The purpose of using nitrous oxide is that injected into the combustion chamber at high temperature, it undergoes a process of pyrolysis, and its breakdown into oxygen and nitrogen results in a gas with increased oxygen content. By providing nitrous oxide, we are able to deliver a gas with a higher oxygen content relative to air, in the same inertness, and this is the primary factor affecting the quality of the combustion mixture.
Types of nitrous oxide
-Dry injection system
In the case of dry injection of nitrous oxide, its dosage is carried out directly in front of the intake manifold, where it mixes with the intake air. In the case of such a solution, it is important to have a high-quality manifold with built-in intake trumpets (e.g. FMIC PRO intake manifolds). This results in better distribution of the gas to all cylinders and allows for equal dosage of nitrous oxide between the cylinders. Even dosage is very important to maintain proper combustion parameters and not to damage the engine.
-Wet injection system
Wet injection systems are characterized by simultaneous injection of nitrous oxide and fuel, as in the dry system the injectors are located in front of the intake manifold. In this injection solution, a mixture of gas and fuel is fed into the manifold. Wet injection systems are more efficient and safer for the engine.
The highest precision in dosing is achieved by direct- port systems, which are characterized by the delivery of nitrous oxide along with fuel to each cylinder separately. The disadvantages of Direct - port systems include a rather complicated and complex design, which translates into a higher purchase and installation price, but only such an installation guarantees the highest power gain and is completely safe for the drive unit.
Nitrous oxide - inhaled laughing gas used as anesthesia at the dentist or an afterburner to increase the power of your car ?
Nitrous oxide is also an inhaled medical laughing gas. Nitrous oxide is used to anesthetize patients, such as in childbirth, or during dental procedures at the dentist. The administration of laughing gas by a doctor (especially in dentistry, for example, when pulling a tooth or during root canal treatment) is a common practice, the professional nomenclature is inhalation sedation, the action of nitrous oxide makes it induce general anesthesia in the patient, giving an analgesic effect, is a cure for fear of the dentist. The half-life of nitrous oxide is about 1 minute. The substance is excreted from the body mainly through the lungs.
Nitrous oxide (N20) is a colorless and odorless gas, due to its properties it is also commonly used in tuning, the administration of gas to the intake system improves the conditions for oxidation of fuel in the combustion chamber, thus increasing the power of the engine after by a sharp increase in the burned mixture. The effect is immediate, but special attention must be paid to the concentration and duration of action, due to the durability of the engines. Nitrous oxide is also used as an oxidizer in fuel for rocket engines
