Garrett turbochargers - professional tuning turbo Garrett

Garrett is a manufacturer that is a pioneer in the racing and sports industry. It engineers and manufactures the safest and most efficient turbochargers and accessories in the industry. For decades, it has provided tuning solutions that help racing teams win races, championships and break world records.

Garrett engineers develop new products for racing enthusiasts, offering a wide range of booster solutions for almost every internal combustion engine. From 1.4L to 12.0L engines and 140 - 3000 horsepower. Check out our full line of turbochargers, and choose the turbine that meets your needs.

Garrett turbines - types

The basic types of the Garrett series are GT and GTX

Garrett GT

Turbo Garrett GT is a tuning series based on plain bearings. The appropriate design of the intake impeller allows to achieve high airflows already at low engine speeds. The early spool is also greatly influenced by the type of bearings used, i.e. the popular ball bearings.

GT series turbos are an excellent choice used in drifting , drag cars, as well as street cars.

Garrett GTX

GTX is a turbo with the highest performance. The Garrett GTX gen 2 series turbo provides maximum performance while maintaining the previous spool. Extremely popular in extreme applications - powerful drags, in drifting and powerful street cars. The turbo provides tremendous performance and trouble-free use thanks to the use of modern ceramic ball bearings.

What is a turbocharger?

It is a rotating device where the rotors of the turbine and compressor are placed on the ends of one shaft, the turbine driven by the exhaust gas drives the compressor which results in pumping additional air into the combustion chamber, and this increases the efficiency and power of the engine. Turbochargers are used in both gasoline and diesel cars, in tuning it is usually used to supercharge a naturally aspirated power unit, which gives huge increases over serial power. A tuning turbocharger with higher performance is the dream of every sports car owner. Usually, the factory turbo is replaced by a larger tuning counterpart with increased performance. Not surprisingly, our tuning turbo is very popular among professional racers and car services specializing in tuning.

How is a turbocharger built?

Turbos are divided into GT series (GT28, GT30, GT35, GT40, GT42, GT45) and GTX series (GTX28, GTX30, GTX35, GTX40, GTX42, GTX45). The former are based on a standard compression wheel, providing an earlier boost, than the GTX series, whose CNC-machined forged compression wheel provides higher power at the expense of later spool . Note that it is not worth exaggerating the size of the turbo - a car with a relatively weaker maximum power, supercharged with a smaller turbo will be "faster" in stree or drift than if a large turbo is used. Why? It is important, for example, the course of power and torque to provide a wide range of useful RPM, than the higher peak power available in the range of only a few hundred RPM, an oversized turbo can cause a turbo hole. The compressor's RPM will be too low, creating unfavorable operating conditions for the compressor. This slightly different situation occurs in a dragster, where the high horsepower available only at the red dashes of the tachometer counts.

The turbine consists of an aluminum intake shell, and a cast iron one on the hot side, the rotor part consisting of the turbine and the compressor wheel is bearing. Some turbines have a built-in westagte, which is often pneumatically controlled by a vacuum. The pressure is able to control the pear piston tilting or opening the exhaust vent. Also common is the exhaust gas guide, which is called variable geometry. Structurally, it is a series of vanes that regulate the amount of exhaust gas on the impeller wheel to control the optimal drive of the compressor rotor.

How to take care of a turbocharger?

The main factor affecting the condition of the turbocharger is the oil, which is responsible for lubrication, its quality as well as frequent replacement is a very important matter for long and trouble-free operation. When installing a new turbocharger, always make sure that the lines responsible for oil supply are filled before starting the drive unit , this will protect the rotor from seizure, due to dry start.

To control and bleed the excess pressure pumped by the turbo is used Blow off, or bleed valve. It is the BOV that is responsible for bleeding pressure from the intake system when the throttle is closed, protecting the turbo from sudden stoppage of the rotors - significantly extending the life of the turbo. In addition to the protective function of the turbo, the installation also includes an improvement in the attractiveness of the engine's sound - letting off the throttle triggers the characteristic "pssst" sound coming from the open blow off.

Blow off is not the only available supercharger bleed valve. The second type is the dump valve (DV). Unlike the blow off, the pressure released by the DV re-enters the intake system, creating a closed system. The recirculation makes it much quieter. DV will be appreciated by series car owners who care about quiet operation. Speaking of bleed valves, we must mention wastegate, it controls the opening of the piston that regulates the amount of exhaust gas going to the rotor blades of your turbine. Like the previously described solutions, it must be characterized by smooth, trouble-free operation to engage at key moments. Jamming or blocking of the piston in the blow off, DV or wastegate can result in damage to the turbine! It is also important to match the diameter of the piston working in the valve to the planned power and pressure. .
